Each teacher's guide contains a table of contents that provides information about:
- The Program - Learn how the guiding principles that underlie the Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading program are embodied in the curriculum’s components and features and why you can expect to see success in your classroom.
- The Unit - Get a preview of the unit: what students do and learn, the valuable science background information you’ll need, and ways to streamline the management of the unit.
- The Investigations - Discover the heart of the teacher’s guide and how it leads you through the investigations in ways that meet the needs of your particular students.
- The Resources - Explore the back of this teacher’s guide for a range of invaluable, practical resources to make your job easier.
- The Assessment system - Learn more about the assessment system and find scoring guides for many of the unit’s assessments.
The Teaching Pages for Investigations
The investigations are the "main event" of the teacher’s guide. A thoughtful format displays the information you need as you present each session. Left-hand pages detail the steps you’ll follow as you present the session including:
- Session summary - including what students learn
- Unit learning goals - organized by the three Seeds/Roots science-lieteracy synergies
- How to prepare the materials
- The time frame and pacing of each activity
- Step-by-step instructions for teaching the session
Each right-hand page offers teaching support and considerations for the steps on the facing left page. You’ll find everything you need to inform and extend your teaching of the session. Examples of the wide range of valuable tips and ideas to support you include:
